What is the perfect Christmas gift from one wine-loving friend to another? Why a great bottle of wine of course! Naturally I was excited to get a bottle of Cornerstone Cellars 2007 Stepping Stone Cabernet Franc from my good friend and fellow wine geek Beau for Christmas especially since he had given it such high praise….for good reason too! The wine is absolutely fabulous! If you have a few minutes, be sure to check out Beau’s blog for in- depth wine reviews and wine industry commentary.
I am very excited to talk about this wine and I am sure you are anxious to read about it so let’s get to the good stuff…the wine!
In the glass, the wine had a gorgeous and seductive deep garnet color with ruby coloring near the edge of the glass. On the nose, you get intense scents of dark fruits such as blackberry bramble, flower petals, and hints of spice that beg you to keep taking the aromas in. I found myself just stopping and taking significant time to soak all the scents in. Flavors of cassis, cherry, red plum, raspberry, dark berries, herbs, and spice caress the palate. The flavors are well balanced and the finish on the wine is long and elegant. The finish leaves you looking forward to that next sip. This wine will pair well with pork and beef dishes.
The wine retailed for $30 per bottle. Currently the only vintage available on the Cornerstone Cellars website is the 2008. I absolutely loved the 2007 Stepping Stone Cabernet Franc. Eventhough this vintage is no longer available, I encourage you to try the 2008.
The goal of Cornerstone Cellars’ Stepping Stone wines is to make memorable, amazing wines at affordable prices. The current offerings in the Stepping Stone series are: 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008 Cabernet Franc, 2008 Syrah, 2009 Corallina Rosé, and a 2009 Sauvignon Musqué. I look forward to trying them all. It’s always such a treat to find some high quality, amazing wines that don’t break the bank. These are wines you can definitely pair with your best dishes.
