2009 Paco & Lola Albariño…a perfect springtime wine for your sipping pleasure!

When the weather starts to warm up here in the OC my cravings for a refreshing white wine run high. For anyone that knows me well will tell you, I have an affinity for Spanish wines and the country itself. So, what is one of my favorite summertime white wines you might ask? The answer is simple…a Spanish Albariño of course!

For those of you not familiar with this particular type of grape, it is one that is indigenous to the border that separates Spain from Portugal. The wine produced from this grape is light to medium bodied and very fruit forward.

Paco & Lola produces one of my favorite Albariños. Paco & Lola lies in the heart of Spain’s Rías Baixas region. This region is known for producing dymanic white wines. Aside from being an amazing wine, another thing that attracted me to them is the design of their wine label. I am a sucker for funky, unique, and trendy wine labels. This one did not disappoint in the funky, trendy factor. This is expressive of the winery being one of Spain’s most modern. It encompasses all that Spain is known for; style, class, modernness, and elegance. Now…on to the wine!

In the glass the wine has a vibrant golden straw color. When I took my first whiff of the wine, I got a lot of fresh green apples and pears on the nose. There were also touches of citrus and the tiniest bit of herbs present, giving it a fresh, clean scent. On the palate was an abundance of citrus flavors, and tropical fruits; mainly pineapple. The wine also has great acidity, making it easy to drink. The finish is long and lingers; makes you anxious for that next sip.

This is one of my all-time favorite white wines. It drinks very easily and it’s absolutely perfect for those warmer spring and summer days or whenever you want a lighter wine to enjoy.

The wine sells for around $15 a bottle. This is a fantastic value for a wine of this quality and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves white wines or to anyone who would like to get familiar with Spanish wines and the style of the white wines from the Rías Baixas region.

Salud y buen provecho!

  2. Sounds good! I like Albarino–especially around this time of year–but don’t think I’ve tried this one.

Love this wine…. especially the 2009. Only one difficulty, I can’t find it in Florida.
