When you associate summer with wine, what type of wine comes to mind? For me, it has always been a Rosé. Summertime events from picnics in the park, to BBQs, to afternoons out by the pool have always been synonymous with drinking Rosé in my world. Why you might ask? Perhaps it’s because of the wine’s varying shades of pink that make it so appealing to me or perhaps it’s the crispness that makes it a perfect, refreshing choice for summertime enjoyment.
I’ve had the pleasure of tasting some pretty incredible wines from Cornerstone Cellars and they did it once again with their 2010 Corallina Napa Valley Syrah Rosé from their Stepping Stone series. For those of you unfamiliar with their Stepping Stone wines, it’s a special line of outstanding wines that are price friendly. These wines are versatile enough to pair with your special dishes for special occasions or to enjoy them with your weeknight dinners. The Stepping Stone series contains six different wines ranging from Riesling to Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2010 Stepping Stone Corallina Napa Valley Syrah Rosé is an absolutely lovely, vibrant, medium-bodied wine that is absolutely perfect for your summertime sipping pleasure. In the glass, the wine has a delicate, coral color. The name Corallina means coral in Italian which is in reference to it’s color. This wine has an absolutely beautiful, fragrant nose. You will automatically notice ripe, luscious strawberry on the nose as well as a bouquet of fresh cut roses and hints of lavender. The scent of the rose petals took me back to those days I would play in my grandmother’s rose garden as a child. Sniffing the wine brought back all those happy memories. On the palate were vibrant flavors of cranberry, citrus, fresh strawberry and red currant with good acidity and a long, lingering finish. I just couldn’t get enough of this wine. It’s so clean and crisp which makes for an absolutely perfect wine for those warm summer days. This wine will pair splendidly with everything from summertime grilled faire, to shellfish, to curry dishes.
I HIGHLY recommend this wine to anyone looking for a refreshing summertime sipping wine. This wine has an extremely attractive price point of $18. In my opinion that is a a phenomenal value for a wine of this quality. I would recommend getting a case at this value to have it on hand for summertime picnics and BBQs. This is definitely a new favorite for me and will definitely be stocking up on it.
