‘Twas another hot summer afternoon in the OC and wine o’clock was fast approaching for this girl. I knew the hot weather begged for a nice chilled white wine but with so many to choose from, what is a girl to do? I quickly ran to the refrigerator to see what was chilled and ready and low and behold, a bottle of Cornerstone Cellar’s 2010 Stepping Stone Napa Valley Riesling jumped out at me! So it was decided, it would be a Riesling kind of afternoon.
Cornerstone Cellar’s 2010 Stepping Stone Napa Valley Riesling is yet another gem from their Stepping Stone series. I’ve had the pleasure of tasting through quite a few of the Stepping Stone wines and have been thoroughly impressed with each. They continue to produce first class wines at affordable prices. These are the wines that you want to stock up on.
What I love about this Riesling is that it is a very dry Riesling. It is 100% Riesling and comes in at 13.5% alcohol. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and undergoes the aging process in stainless steel barrels, allowing the fruit to shine through on the nose and on the palate. In the glass, the wine has a light straw color. The nose is fragrant and beautiful. I got aromas of honey suckle, delicate flowers, melon, and citrus; the aromas of summertime in a glass! On the palate, I got fresh, lively citrus flavors such as grapefruit, lemon zest, and orange. The wine shows brilliant acidity and a nice minerality on the finish. This wine, is clean, bright, and crisp. In my opnion a fantasic wine for a hot summer day.
Cornerstone Cellars never ceases to amaze me on how they consistantly produce high quality, delicious wines. Their Stepping Stone Series containes several fantastic wines that are also priced favorably. Their goal is to make wonderful wines that you can enjoy any day of the week. I HIGHLY recommend this wine. It sells for $18/bottle so make sure to buy multiple bottles to have on hand this summer. I had fun pairing this wine with sashimi however it will pair well with a lot of fun foods.
