Taste of Tuscany: La Moto 2007 Chianti Riserva

As some of you may recall, I tasted a couple of wines sent to me from a newer online wine retailer called Wine Passionate a couple months ago. For those interested in reading that blog post, it can be found here. Wine Passionate specializes in selling a wide selection of imported wines from Italy, Chile, and Argentina at friendly prices. You can find red, white, Rosés, and sparkling wines on their website.

I was lucky enough to be sent a couple more of their wines to try and share with you. I was sent a sparkling wine and a red wine. This blog will highlight the red that was sent to me, a La Moto 2007 Chianti Riserva. Watch for my blog post on the sparkling wine in the near future!

La Moto 2007 Chianti Riserva

The La Moto 2007 Chianti Riserva is composed of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon which is aged for two years in oak barrels. For those of you unfamiliar with the Canaiolo grape, it is a Italian grape widely planted in Tuscany. When blended with Sangiovese it is commonly made into Chianti. This lovely wine will transport you to breathtaking Tuscany where the people are passionate about good wine with good food that is always shared with family and friends.

In the glass, the wine pours a gorgeous, ruby color with a light pink hue on the rim when held up to the light. The nose has aromatics of cherries, violets, balsamic notes, herbs, and oak. The palate is full of cherry flavor and rhubarb that gives it a slight tartness along with flavors of red licorice. The wine has a softer tannic structure and finishes long with hints of chocolate. This is a lighter red wine that makes it perfect to sip on these warmer evenings as we begin the summer season. I paired it with pork tenderloin and it paired beautifully. Chianti is a very food friendly wine and will pair with a variety of dishes from pork to pastas with meat sauces, to soups. I really enjoyed this wine. It is very easy to drink and the fact that you can pair it with so many dishes makes it even more appealing.

I was sent a bottle of the 2007. The Wine Passionate website has the 2006 (2007 also available) and it’s on sale for $18.80 (normally $24.90). Some background information on the wine can be found here. This is a great wine for under $20.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Wine Passionate’s online store, you should definitely check it out. They offer a lot of fun, interesting wines at reasonable prices. Wine lovers know that it’s always exciting to find good, everyday wines at good prices.

Stay tuned for the next post on the sparkling wine from Wine Passionate. Until the next time friends!

I love the way you defined how it pours on the glass “..a gorgeous, ruby color with a light pink hue on the rim when held up to the light”.
